What’s new: clips, copy and paste between videos, and a library that opens at once

Until now a Blazing Video take was one recording. You could cut it down, but you couldn’t add to it. This update changes that, and tidies up a lot of the editor along the way.

Record more, or add a video, onto the end

Forgot something? Press Record More in the editor and keep talking. The new recording lands after the first as a second clip. You can also add another take from your library, or any .mp4 or .mov file, which is transcribed first.

All the clips share one transcript and one timeline. Cuts, trims, fillers, pauses, export and the share link cover the whole thing, so it still behaves like a single video. A clip of a different shape is fitted, not stretched.

Copy and paste video, by copying words

Select a stretch of the transcript, press ⌘C, open another take and press ⌘V. The video under those words is pasted where your caret is, with any cuts you made inside it. It’s the quickest way to reuse a good explanation you already recorded, or to stitch the best bits of three attempts into one.

The transcript has a real caret now, so you can see where a paste will go. ↩ adds a blank line to break up the text (it only changes the layout, not the video), and ⌫ takes it back.

A timeline you can work on

  • Zoom. Pinch the timeline, or hold ⌘ and scroll over it. Click the zoom readout to fit the whole video again.
  • Clips you can see. Each clip is its own numbered block with thumbnails. Click one to select it, ⌫ removes it, ⌘B splits at the playhead.
  • Trim by dragging the ends. Hold ⌥ to trim between words rather than snapping to them.
  • Room to move. The panes and the timeline height can be resized.
  • Undo everything. ⌘Z and ⇧⌘Z now cover pastes, added and removed clips and line breaks as well as cuts.

Zoom into your camera and reframe it

If your webcam shows too much room, zoom it in and drag to reframe your face inside its circle or rectangle. It’s in the Camera tab, next to shape, size and background removal.

One speed button

Next to Play there’s now a single speed button: click it to go 1×, 2×, 3×. Voices at 2× and 3× also sound cleaner, without the warble fast playback used to have.

A library that opens at once

Opening the app shows your takes straight away, and each take keeps its own edits. The cards are bigger, thumbnails load in the background and only for the cards on screen, and scrolling stays smooth with dozens of takes. Search looks through every word you said in every take, so “the one where I explained billing” is a few letters away. There’s a trash button on each card, and the mouse back button or a two-finger swipe takes you from the editor back to the library.

In the recorder

Pickers for your camera and microphone now sit beside their toggles, so you can switch source without opening settings. You can cancel a take you don’t want, and the recording island remembers where you put it. If your account shares links as “Only me”, Blazing Video now says so when it copies the link, so you don’t send a link nobody else can open.

Get it

If you already have Blazing Video, it updates itself. If not, download it and press ⌥⇧R.
