How to record your screen online, with no download
- Choose whether to record your microphone, and pick a format. MP4 shows up only if your browser can write it (recent Chrome, Edge and Safari can); otherwise you get WebM.
- Press Start recording. Your browser asks what to share: the entire screen, one window, or one browser tab.
- Allow the microphone if you asked for it. If you share a tab, tick “Share tab audio” to include its sound.
- Press Stop, or use the browser’s own “Stop sharing” button. A preview appears; press Download to save the file.
The video is assembled in your browser’s memory and saved straight to your computer. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and there is no watermark.
What each browser can record
| Browser | Screen | System or tab sound | Formats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chrome, Edge (desktop) | Screen, window or tab | Tab audio; whole-system audio on Windows and ChromeOS | WebM, and MP4 in recent versions |
| Firefox (desktop) | Screen or window | No | WebM |
| Safari (Mac) | Screen or window | No | MP4 |
| Phones and tablets | No | No | – |
The microphone works in all the desktop browsers above. When there is both tab sound and a microphone, the tool mixes them into one audio track.
Before you start on a Mac
macOS asks for permission the first time a browser records the screen. If sharing fails, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, turn your browser on, and quit and reopen the browser.
Limits worth knowing
- Keep the tab open. Closing or reloading this page while recording loses the recording.
- Memory. The recording is held in memory until you download it. Long, high-resolution recordings can use several gigabytes, so save long sessions in parts.
- WebM files. They play in browsers and in VLC, but QuickTime and some editors won’t open them. Pick MP4 when it’s offered, or convert the file afterwards.
- No editing. What you record is what you download.
When a browser recorder isn’t enough
For a quick clip, the browser is fine. If you record often on a Mac, a native app records at full resolution without holding everything in memory. Blazing Video is a Mac screen recorder that also adds a transcript you can edit by deleting words, and gives you a share link as soon as you stop.
FAQ
Is there a free online screen recorder with no download?
Yes. This page records your screen in a desktop browser using the browser’s built-in screen sharing. There’s nothing to install, no sign-up and no watermark, and the video is saved straight to your computer.
Can I record my screen with audio online?
You can record your microphone in any desktop browser. Sound from a browser tab can be recorded in Chrome and Edge by ticking “Share tab audio” when you choose the tab. Firefox and Safari don’t share system sound.
Why can’t I record my screen on my phone in the browser?
Mobile browsers don’t support screen sharing for websites. Use the built-in recorder instead: Screen Recording in Control Center on iPhone and iPad, or Screen record in Quick Settings on Android.
Does the online screen recorder save as MP4?
It saves MP4 when your browser can write it, which recent Chrome, Edge and Safari can. Otherwise it saves WebM, which plays in browsers and VLC and can be converted to MP4 afterwards.
